“You have made us for yourself
and our hearts are restless
until they rest in you.”
Augustine of Hippo

Alienation.

This word resonates with our experience in a troubled world.  Tensions strain our relationships  to the point of snapping.  War and violence fill the news.   Conflicts poison our work environments.  Racism leaves ugly scars.   Inner unrest steals our peace.   People are lost and alone among millions,  anonymous even to their neighbors.

All this results from a deeper alienation:  our alienation from God.

We need God.
We need to know God.
We need to be reconciled to God.

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors,
as though God were making his appeal through us.
We implore you on Christ’s behalf:
Be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20, The Bible

 Weekly Quote:
I find I must borrow yet another parable from George MacDonald. Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself. (C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity: MacMillian, New York: 1952, pg.174).
